Winter is Coming: Bike Commuting in Stockholm

November 3, 2016

Sandwich of the Month

- Rocchetta cheese. A delicious fresh cheese made from the combined milks of cows, sheep, and goats. Wrap it in paper (not plastic) if you need to store it.

- Fig jam. The brand I'm eating is called Vergers d'Aliénor. In Swedish it's fikonmarmelad, which is fun to say. I haven't had a fresh fig since leaving California, but this jam is a decent proxy.

- Knäckebröd (crispbread), preferably a brungräddat (brown) like Leksands Rundrut. Pyramid Spisbrod will do in a pinch. Use matzah if desperate, leaving slavery, or re-enacting same.

Directions: Spread cheese on crispbread. Spread fig jam on top of cheese.

Eat. Relish the union of the earthiness of the brown knäckebröd, the richness of the teats of  3 mammals and the sweetness and punch of the fig jam. Realize that nothing may ever be this good again, ever.
